Lubbock Authorities Warn Of "Canadian Lottery Scam"

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is warning Texans about the so-called "Canadian Lottery" scam.

It usually starts with a call saying you have won a cash prize. In some cases, the caller requires you to wire money to Canada first, allegedly to pay taxes on the winnings, with the prize coming later. Or, the caller requests your bank account numbers for direct deposit.

Lubbock Police Department Sergeant Woodard tells NewsChannel 11 there have been no reports of this scam in Lubbock. But, if you get a call such the ones we have described report it to him by calling (806) 775-2777.
