Perry Pushes Increased Fines for Repeat Traffic Violators

Governor Rick Perry wants to give you a reason to drive responsibly that could cost you money.

Perry is supporting a bill that would increase fines for repeat traffic offenders. The Governor says the bill would raise $1-billion for Texas' trauma centers. He says trauma centers lost $181-million in 2001 because of uninsured patients. Here's how the bill would work: Drivers who are given three tickets or cause two accidents within three years would pay an extra $100 to renew their licenses. Also, repeat DWI violators would pay an additional $1,500.

The bill has passed the house and is currently pending in a senate committee.
