Many people swear by the Atkins Diet. Now, there's scientific research to back them up.
Two studies released on Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine have similar results, that those who followed the Atkins Diet lost twice as much weight during the first six months compared to those on a low-fat high carb plan.
So, researchers say that in the short term, these scientific studies suggest that low-carb takes off more weight than low-fat and may be surprisingly better for cholesterol, too. But since the two studies combined looked at only about 200 people, researchers say larger and longer studies are needed -- so a five year study will be launched soon.
