LITTLEFIELD, TX (KCBD) - There are only five denim mills left in the United States, and one of them is located in the heart of the Littlefield cotton fields.
Actually, American Cotton Growers is the only denim manufacturer this side of the Mississippi. They take raw cotton, spin it into yarn, dye it and produce 100,000 yards of denim a day.
Each year the mill contributes $60 million to the West Texas economy and 71 percent of their employees come from Littlefield. "One of the unique things about this denim mill is we are owned by cotton farmers, about 25,000 of them," says Natalia Moore, Director of Human Resources. "The cotton that we use is primarily West Texas cotton that is primarily grown in a 55 mile radius of this denim mill. "
American Cotton Growers sells to more than 40 jean designers such as Levi, Gap and Rock and Republic.
