LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - State regulators Friday gave the Terry County Sheriff permission to repair a jail cell that was damaged in late June when two inmates escaped. Terry County Sheriff Larry Gilbreath tells KCBD NewsChannel 11 that he'll get the cell fixed as soon as he can hire someone to do the work. The inmates were found a day later but then roughly three weeks after the escape, the Terry County Jail failed state inspection.
Sheriff Gilbreath says his staff failed to properly document how they had kept watch on inmates. He characterizes it as a paperwork problem. Gilbreath also says the soonest he can a state jail inspector back to Terry County will be September and he says he expects the jail to pass.
