LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Big 12 Conference has released the composite league schedule for the 2010-2011 men's basketball season and the Texas Tech Red Raiders begin conference play with two home games for the second time in conference history.
The Red Raiders host Baylor on January 8 in the conference opener for both teams. Texas begins their conference season at the United Spirit Arena on January 11.
Currently, a total of 79 conference games will be televised nationally or regionally on an ESPN network, CBS or the regionally-syndicated Big 12 Network. The games are being carried as part of the third season of a multi-year agreement with ESPN that runs through the 2015-2016 season. Among the league contests not televised on a national or regional basis, many of those will be selected at a later date for local telecast packages and inclusion on ESPN Full Court - the pay subscription college basketball outer-market service.
Presently, the Red Raiders have eleven conference games planned for television coverage. Broadcast coverage for the remaining games is still to be determined.
Texas Tech's first of six games on the Big 12 Network begins at Kansas State on January 15. The Red Raiders are at Oklahoma (Jan. 18), at Oklahoma State (Feb. 26), and at Texas A&M (March 5) with television coverage on the Big 12 Network. Two Red Raider home games will be featured on the Big 12 Network with Oklahoma State in Lubbock on January 29 while Texas A&M is at the United Spirit Arena on February 12.
In addition to the season-opener against Baylor on January 8, ESPNU will feature Texas Tech hosting Kansas on February 1. ESPNU will also televise Texas Tech at Texas on February 5.
The Red Raiders will be featured on ESPN2 when they host Texas on February 20 and on the road against Missouri on February 15.
In men's basketball, the Big 12 was the first conference to be guaranteed three weekly telecast windows on ESPN or ESPN2, which each reach 99 million homes, respectively. In addition, 95 games overall (conference and non-conference) will air annually with more than 60 contests seen on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3.com or another national over-the-air network.
In March, the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship will continue to be televised on a variety of ESPN platforms including ESPN, ESPN2 and in regional syndication on the Big 12 Network.
The re-branded Big 12 Network is in its third year, with games seen throughout the conference's geographic footprint and produced by ESPN Regional Television. It has also been distributed in numerous other markets, including New York, Chicago, Baltimore and Providence. Among all the televised games, many will be shown as part of ESPN Full Court.
