ABERNATHY, TX (KCBD) - A South Plains community is working to conserve energy by using a renewable resource.
Crews installed wind turbines in Abernathy on Tuesday. The City Manager says they have also installed programmable thermostats at City Hall. Combined, he says the city expects to save thousands each year.
"The generators should save us about $2,000 worth of electrical costs annually, and the thermostats another $3,000, so we're hoping to save about $5,000 a year," says Mike Cypert, Abernathy City Manager.
A state grant paid for the project.
