CLOVIS, NM (KCBD) - A new trial is underway for the man accused of murdering a Lubbock woman two years ago in Clovis New Mexico. According to the Portales News Tribune the retrial of Anthony Casillas, 23, started this week in Portales rather than Clovis.
Earlier this year Casillas' proceedings ended in a mistrial when members of the jury witnessed a disturbance among Casillas' family members.
Casillas is accused of shooting and killing Gary Payne, 52, of Melrose, and Melissa Ward, 36, of Lubbock.
The Portales News Tribune quotes public records as saying Casillas has been charged with six felonies while in jail including battery on a peace officer and bribery of a witness. If convicted he faces a possible life in prison.
