Even though they set your mouth on fire, chili peppers may help lower your blood pressure. Chinese researchers found capsaicin, which gives the peppers their heat, also helps blood vessels relax in rats with hypertension.
However, before you change your diet, researchers say they need to test this on humans. They haven't discovered how many chili peppers you would have to eat every day to maintain a lower blood pressure.
