Old Lubbock County Jail could pose problems for new jail

Posted: Updated:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The old jail annex is officially closed. Sheriff Kelly Rowe presented the request before the Lubbock County Commissioners Monday morning and they voted to make it official.

Then annex, which is the oldest portion of the old jail in the 800 block of Main Street, was built in 1931 and its deteriorating condition could make trouble for the new jail, located north of Lubbock, near the airport. The condition of the annex was putting both facilities at risk for decertification.

The new jail and the old jail are both lumped together under one umbrella, that is why Sheriff Rowe wanted the annex removed from the active records of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
