Family of murder suspect speaks out for the first time

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – A brother and social media page gives more information about Lubbock's latest murder suspect.

Eric Perez, 21, is behind bars and charged with the murder of Danny Brazeal. Police say he called 911 Saturday to confess the murder and lead authorities to the body at the Civic Center.

Finding his public Facebook page, some of Perez's latest posts talk about his personal problems. Some of the posts say things like "It's been eating me up all day" and "it's killing me inside". While others go to say "What is wrong with me".

In a Facebook message a girl claiming to be one of Perez's ex-girlfriends wrote this: "He was always a sweet person when I was around, but when he talked about how he was in the past it worried me a little."

She goes on to say, "I haven't really known him that long. It did shock me when I found out cuz I never thought he would do something that violent".

Late Monday evening, Perez's older brother contacted KCBD. "My brother is a good guy. He's the type of guy who would give you the shirt of his back. He would do anything for anybody," he said.

We also found that Perez is a 2008 Monterey High School graduate and works for a local landscaping company.

Perez has no criminal background and police say he has been cooperating from the very beginning.
