LUBBOCK, TX – Texas Tech sophomore golfer Beverly Mendoza ended a successful run at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship with an opening-round loss Wednesday to Emily Tubert in the match play portion of the tournament.
Mendoza previously fired consecutive 1-over 73 rounds in the stroke play portion of the tournament, which is being held at the Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C., to finish tied for 23rd entering Wednesday's match play event that Tubert won, 3 and 2.
A native of the Philippines, Mendoza was instrumental part in Tech's run to a NCAA Regional appearance last season, averaging 76.3 strokes per round, fifth lowest on the team.
