LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Blue Ribbon Commission named after wrongfully convicted inmate Timothy Cole conducted its final meeting Thursday by approving a package of proposed reforms.
Cole was a Texas Tech student, wrongfully convicted of rape, who died in prison. It's expected the recommendations will get priority treatment in the 2011 legislative session.
They include procedures for eyewitness identification, interrogation of suspects, and defense lawyers' access to prosecution evidence.
The 11-member commission also calls for more state-funded innocence projects at four public universities, including Texas Tech.
