LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A federal public defender tried to get a Lubbock man out of custody and get the charges of not registering as a sex offender dropped.
Ralph Maddox was convicted of sodomy of a child several years ago in Missouri. He registered as a sex offender in Missouri and California, but he never registered when he came from California to Lubbock.
The public defender argued that charges should be dropped because Maddox was never officially told he had to register. Prosecutors argue that he did get official notification.
In one sentence ruling, the judge ruled with prosecutors, so Maddox still faces charges for not registering as a sex offender in Lubbock.
