Lubbock police association selling cancer awareness wristbands

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock Police Professional Association is banding together for a fellow officer as he recovers from kidney cancer.

"We are going to be selling these cancer awareness wristbands. They're orange in color which represents kidney cancer awareness. Early awareness is probably what saved it from spreading to other parts of his body and had it contained to the kidneys. The early detection is probably what saved a lot of the trouble," said Officer Chad Wurm.

Sgt. Nathan Anderson is expected to be back on the beat soon. Most officers are sporting the orange wrist bands - which they will be selling outside Market Street at 98th and Quaker from Noon until 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

They are asking for a $10 donation which will go to the American Cancer Society to help with Anderson's medical expenses.
