Horse Slaughtering Bill Stirs Controversy in East Texas

A controversy is brewing over a bill that would legalize the slaughter of horses for sale overseas.

The only two horse slaughtering plants in the country operate near Longview, despite a 53-year-old law that bans the practice. But now the Texas Legislature is considering a bill that would make it legal. The meat would be sold for consumption in Europe and Asia. Opponents say it's morally wrong and want it outlawed.
