LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The lawyers working on Benny Judah's former Ponzi Scheme submitted a request for payment a few days ago. Judah is serving prison time, having tricked about 250 or so local investors.
Judah's investors will get be lucky to get five cents on the dollar for their losses. Not so for the court-appointed Receivership Trustee Fernando Bustos.
Bustos is asking to be paid $96,995.40 for his work in April May and June. Additionally, Bustos hired an outside law firm McClesky Harriger Brazill & Graff to share in the legal work, and the profits. The firm is billing $65,509.69.
In some instances Bustos is charging $20 for 6 minutes or less of work. And, court records show, if one of the lawyers in Bustos' office calls the outside firm, then both charge simultaneously against the Judah estate.
The lawyers' billing does not include forensic accounting or day-to-day expenses of Judah's businesses.
