Thirteen people remain imprisoned following a discredited drug bust in 1999, but tonight, the Tulia defendants are another step closer to freedom.
Dozens of mostly black, Tulia residents were arrested in the raid after an investigation by undercover agent Tom Coleman. Coleman was later indicted on three counts of aggravated perjury involving the busts.
Today, the Texas House gave final approval to a bill allowing for the prisoners release. That bill is now in the hands of Governor Perry.
