Conserving Water In the Garden

During the heat of the summer, water is probably our most precious resource. But with only a limited supply, Lubbock residents are urged to be mindful, not wasteful, which is especially difficult when keeping a garden.

"What people can do is go to their local nurseries and look for a native plant variety that is indigenous to the area that will use water efficiently," said Carmon McCain with the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District. He adds that the key is to group plants with similar water needs and use a soaker hose in your flower beds to reduce water evaporation.
