Lubbock City Attorney Receives Top Honor

City Attorney Anita Burgess received an honor from the President of the United States today as she was awarded the Legion of Merit Award.

Burgess, a Colonel in the United States Marine Corps, was cited for exceptional conduct and outstanding service while serving as Special Counsel for the Marine's Water Law and Labor Law. She was instrumental in securing the water supply for Marine installations in the United States, and her work also played a role for those fighting in Iraq.

"This has been a great honor, it's a very nice award. I'm humbled by it. I'm pleased. I attribute a lot of this to the people of West Texas and their spirit and their grit is what's in me and thanks to all of you. I appreciate it." said Burgess.

The ceremony was held at American State Bank, downtown, and a reception followed.
