ACKERLY, TX (KCBD) - An oil field explosion about 20-miles south of Lamesa critically injures two workers. The blast happened near Ackerly, which is about 83-miles south of Lubbock.

Both victims were flown to University Medical Center in Lubbock for treatment. The two men injured in the oil explosion are at the UMC burn unit with burns on up to 80 percent of their bodies. The Martin County Sheriff's Office got a call about an explosion around 7:30 Thursday morning.

There were eight people at the field, six of them heard what sounded like a vapor gas in the air and took off running. Before the drivers of two trucks could kill their engines, a flash explosion occurred.

Two helicopters landed at the scene to being the two men to Lubbock. Sheriff John Woodward says the trucks belonged to Basic Energy and the well was leased by Endeavor.

The names and ages of the two men have not been released. Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, OSHA, are at the well site looking into what happened. The Martin County Sheriff's Office says this was just a bad accident.
