It's going to be a tough and hot summer for some needy families since Guadalupe Services, an agency that provides free air conditioners to the indigent, won't be able to do that this year.
As part of the state budget cuts, Guadalupe Services isn't receiving the $1 million dollars they count on to help the poor. Guadalupe Services uses the money to buy air conditioners and pay family utility bills.
Friday, Anna Mora with Guadalupe Services says they've turned down hundreds of needy families. "Guadalupe is known for their social services. They've been here for years and have been able to help just about anyone that walks through the door. But this year, with the budget cuts, we haven't been able to handle the calls that have been coming through right now. We don't have any money to help," said Mora.
Mora says they're concerned about the elderly who need air conditioners inside their house. If you would like to help Guadalupe Services, you can call their main number during working hours Monday through Friday at 744-4416.
