Sales tax holiday draws shoppers before school starts

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It's the final weekend of summer vacation for most South Plains' students. They'll head back to school Monday morning, so as you can imagine, stores were packed Saturday with back to school shoppers taking advantage of tax-free savings.

Folks that brave the lines will save about $8 on every $100 spent this weekend. Tax free items include clothing, shoes, and this year an expanded list of other supplies.

The good news is, you don't have to go to the physical store to cash in. You can order some items online, and if the seller has a store in Texas, you'll also get the tax break!

Many stores also have special hours to accommodate tax-free shoppers.  The holiday ends Sunday at midnight.
