Back to school for South Plains schools in full swing

Posted: Updated:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - There were no major problems Monday morning as 29,000 students started school in the Lubbock Independent School District. School officials want to send the same reminders when picking up your children after school.

They urge drivers to slow down in school zones, take your time if you are headed to pick someone up, and to avoid the large crowds, they say to get there a little early.

"We'll have all of our teachers dismiss with all of our classes, so we'll have lots of adults out helping the kids find their parents, and grandparents or their rides, whoever is suppose to pick them up," said Chris Brown, Whiteside Elementary Principal.

An important reminder: Law enforcement is on the lookout for those speeding in school zones and for those using a cell phone. It is illegal to be on your phone when the lights are flashing, and they say they are ready to crack down on this new law immediately.
