Grant to cover large portion of airport improvement cost

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Wednesday, Senator John Cornyn announced a multi-million dollar grant to help pay for improvements at Lubbock Preston-Smith International Airport.  The grant from the FAA is more than $15-million.

It's been awarded to help pay for phase two of the runway extension project. The goal is to move the east-west runway away from the north-south runway.

Airport Director James Loomis tells KCBD the grant will cover 95% of phase two costs, with the remaining funds coming from passenger facility fees.
