LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – As area classrooms get into full swing, kids aren't the only ones learning in school. Teachers pick up a lot from their students. That's why Dr. Daina Dremaine wants to send a special assignment to teachers. She says, "For teachers, it's very important to pay attention if there is a child who is drinking excessively, urinating excessively, had accidents in the classroom, asking to be excused for the bathroom. Those children really should be brought to a doctor's attention and blood sugar should be checked."
Dr. Dremaine says as the number of cases of diabetes climbs among schoolchildren, it's important for parents and teachers to remember that just as it is in adults, a lot of kids may be unaware they have diabetes simply because it has not been diagnosed yet.
