PLAINVIEW, Tex. --- The Wayland Baptist men's soccer team got the first win in program history on Monday with a 2-1 victory over Texas Wesleyan University. Freshman Guillermo Villarreal of El Paso got both goals, one in each period. Sophomore Carlos Mellado got both assists. It was the season opener for the Pioneers.
In the women's game, Texas Wesleyan's Jessica Watton picked up her third and fourth goals of the season as the Lady Rams scored three unanswered goals in the second half to defeat the Pioneers 4-2.
WBU freshman Corita Kraemer recorded the first goal of her career about halfway through the first period and senior Najuka Anderson of Lubbock scored three minutes later to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead.
