Two injured in red light running accident

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Two people were hospitalized following an early Wednesday morning accident near Texas Tech University.

Police say the driver of a black Jeep was traveling east on 19th St., when he tried to turn north on University Ave.

That is when the driver of a red Mazda, traveling northbound on University Ave., ran the red light and hit the SUV. The driver of the Mazda, 21-year-old Christopher Ramos, was taken to University Medical Center with moderate injuries. The passenger,  28-year-old Daniel Jimenez, suffered critical injuries after his head went through the windshield. He was taken to Covenant Medical Center with serious injuries.

No one in the Jeep was injured. Officials with the Lubbock Police Department say that alcohol could be a factor in the crash, but it will not be confirmed until test results are back.
