ABILENE, Texas (September 1, 2010) – Cloyce Session came off the bench and scored the match's only goal in the 67th minute and Lubbock Christian spoiled McMurry University's home and season opener, 1-0 in men's soccer action. LCU, the NAIA school in its first year as a program, moved to 2-0 on the season.
Session took a pass from Tony Valera, struck the ball off McMurry goalkeeper Collin Bowersock's hands and the deflection rolled into the net for the Chaps goal. McMurry took six of its 15 shots in the final 23 minutes of the contest in order to try and knot the score, however, all attempts were nixed and Alistair Caldwell came away with the first shutout in program history.
Bowersock played well with seven saves despite the one goal allowed. The Chaps out-shot McMurry 20-15 and landed eight shots on goal while McMurry put two on goal for the contest.
McMurry's best opportunity to score following LCU's goal was in the 75th minute when Everton Pinnock, Bobby Wagner, and Michael LaBelle all took consecutive shots within 12 seconds of each other, however, the LCU defense blocked all three attempts.
Valera led LCU with four shots to accompany his assist and the Chaps had nine corner kicks on the match compared to McMurry's five. Wagner led McMurry with four shots while Tyler Tarango and Pinnock each landed a shot on goal.
