LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Lubbock restaurant helped bring needed equipment to the Idalou Volunteer Fire Department.
On Thursday, Firehouse Subs announced a donation of a special washer and dryer to clean the gear the firemen wear when they battle a blaze.
"They are a volunteer department and they don't have the funds to purchase equipment like this; this bunker gear washer and dryer costs approximately $16,000," says Mindy Wilkins with Fire House Subs.
"We can put about five sets of bunker hear in the washing machine, which it's an enormous machine," says Chief Ed Wilbanks with the Idalou Volunteer Fire Department.
Fire House Subs sells their five gallon pickle buckets to help fund their public safety foundation. Customers are also able to make donations at their restaurants.
To date, they have awarded more than $2.2 million to fire departments nationwide.
