LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The young man accused of firing a shot at Lubbock police is in "critical but stable condition" at University Medical Center as of Saturday afternoon.

Lubbock officers went to the 300 block of 54th Street early Friday morning, looking for Jose Juan Ortega, 27, who was wanted for Aggravated Assault after a shooting incident Thursday in Hockley County.

A written statement says Ortega fired at officer Gerardo Torres who returned fire.  Torres suffered only minor injuries in the confrontation.
