Memorial fund & funeral set for teen killed in SUV crash

PETERSBERG, TX (KCBD) - A memorial fund has been set up for the Petersburg teen killed in a one-vehicle rollover this weekend.

Cecilia Perez-Sanchez, 19, died early Sunday morning in northeast Lubbock County, specifically County Road 5300 just east of County Road 3600.  DPS troopers say she was driving at a high rate of speed on County Road 5300 when she lost control of her SUV.

Her passenger, Andrea White, 17, also of Petersburg, walked to a nearby residence where she called for help.

Joey Nichols is the Petersburg ISD Superintendent and he says Cecilia Perez was a student that stuck out in his mind. Nichols says Perez was excited to graduate and go to college.

Fellow students at Petersburg High School decorated her locker as a memorial with pictures and flowers. Counselors were available at school on Tuesday to talk with students as they deal with the death of a classmate.

"You never plan for or are truly prepared for anything like this. She was very well liked by students, very personable, big smile and she definitely will be missed," said Nichols.

A fund has been set up at Vista Bank to help the Perez family in this time of need.  You can donate to the Cecilia Perez memorial fund.

Her funeral is set for Friday at noon in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Petersburg.
