An 88-year-old Lubbock woman died Friday after she was involved in an accident earlier in the morning. Elma Thomas was a passenger inside the Oldsmobile that was driven by 80-year-old Alma Blethroade.
The women were at a stop on 58th Street and Avenue Q. Police say Blethroade reversed her Oldsmobile and hit the car behind her. She then went forward and started to cross Avenue Q. A Ford pickup traveling South on Avenue Q then hit the Oldsmobile on the passenger side, sending it spinning into a guardrail.
EMS took the two women to UMC. Blethroade is in critical condition. No one else was injured.
