The body of Texas Tech Graduate Laura Putnam was discovered by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in Horseshoe Bay Sunday evening. The 23 year-old was presumed dead following a boating accident at a central Texas lake on Monday, May 26th.
It was a hit-and-run collision that happened around 2:30 a.m. at Lake LBJ near Horseshoe Bay. Putnam, her fiance Justin Moore, and his cousin Jerry Cypert were sitting in a boat just offshore when they were broadsided by another boat. That boat knocked Putnam into the water. She was not wearing a life vest.
Eyewitnesses say that the other boat pulled back around, shut off its engine for a few minutes, then took off. The body was recovered almost a mile west of the accident scene in a shallow area of Lake LBJ.
Authorities in the Horseshoe Bay area are continuing their search for the white speed boat with a red or dark stripe. They also suspect that boat sustained front end damage in the collision. Both Moore and Cypert suffered minor injuries.
