LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Wounded veterans might expect to go to a hospital or even a counselor, but a barn? That's what some volunteers are offering in California. They hope this new program will help heal emotional wounds that are too difficult for doctors to reach.
It's called the Bonita Equestrian Therapy for Heroes. The treatment site is a horse ranch in Bonita, and it is where more and more veterans are coming to recover from the emotional scars of combat.
The program accepts eight veterans per session, and many more are on the waiting list. The cost of the program is paid entirely through donations. Volunteers keep it going, and say the value of every dollar is immeasurable.
