Slaton woman dies after being hit by vehicle

SLATON, TX (KCBD) -

SLATON, TX (KCBD) - An elderly Slaton woman died Tuesday morning from injuries suffered when a vehicle hit her Monday. Slaton Police say Shirley Simmons, 71 was crossing West Dayton, near 17th Street when a vehicle hit her around 7:30 a.m. Monday.

The driver told authorities they didn't see Simmons because of the sun. Simmons died around 1:00 a.m. Tuesday at a Lubbock hospital.

Authorities tell KCBD their investigation continues, but preliminary results indicate speed or alcohol were not factors in the crash.
