LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Texas Tech and Foursquare have partnered up to offer students and fans an opportunity to explore the Texas Tech campus in a whole new way. Fans will be able to use Foursquare and receive various freebies and promotions by visiting various Texas Tech campus locations.
Foursquare is a mobile app that makes the Raiderhood more interesting to explore. It's a friend finder, a social guide and a game that challenges users to experience new things and rewards them for doing so. Players can compete with friends to become "mayor" of various locations and venues. If you check in more frequently than anyone else, you claim bragging rights as the "mayor" of that venue. You also can earn extra points by being the first to post a visit to a new location, by making frequent visits or by sharing new information about locations or activities.
As an added bonus, foursquare users receive tips and specials when they check in to a location.
It's a game, have fun!
"We're very excited that Texas Tech University has decided to participate in the foursquare for Universities Program," said Dennis Crowley, CEO and co-founder of Foursquare.
"We're seeing partner universities create custom tours for incoming students, connect students with professors and study groups, generate buzz for events, promote student programs and reward students for school pride. Foursquare's location-based features make connecting with peers easy, while the gaming mechanics make exploring campus fun and engaging."
Foursquare is currently available for the iPhone, Blackberry, Android and Palm. For more information on how foursquare works, see the searchable FAQ on foursquare.com. With Texas Tech and foursquare, you're always connected!
