Price up 16 cents at Lubbock gas pumps, but why?

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Struggling families won't want to hear this but gas prices jumped overnight by as much as 16-cents at some locations here in Lubbock.  We talked to Charles Bolton, owner of Bolton Oil, to find out why.

"Well my supplier tells me that they had a big pipeline leak in the Chicago area from the Canadian Oil that comes into here and that's the reason for the big spike," Bolton says.

Bolton says the EPA forced a shutdown of that pipeline, which could create a shortage in the Chicago area.   Early Thursday evening gas prices in Lubbock ranged from $2.479 per gallon to 2.699 per gallon according to lubbockgasprices.com, with an average price of about $2.61 per gallon.
