LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – For the second time in two days, an FDA advisory panel has shot down another prescription pill for dieters. This time the ax falls on the experimental drug called Lorcaserin. Researchers were encouraged that it had so few side effects, and when patients took the pill and also exercised. They lost an average of 17 pounds a year, but while those results were promising, an FDA panel of experts said there is still not enough safety input on those patients long term. The FDA is not required to follow the advice of this panel, but it usually does. A couple months ago, the same panel rejected another experimental weight-loss drug called Q-Nexa. Now one drug remains to be considered.
