Texas Tech University system kicks off $1 billion fundraising campaign

Posted: Updated:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It's an ambitious goal to raise $1 billion by August 2013, but Texas Tech University is more than halfway there.

"It's a huge number, but dream no little dreams and if you are going to dream little dreams go to some other school," said Chancellor Kent Hance with Texas Tech University.

The University announced the Vision and Tradition Campaign which has already raised $611 million since 2007.

Jerry Rawls, Executive Chairman of Finisar Corp. and Ed Whitacre, Chairman of the Board of General Motors will co-chair the vision and tradition campaign.

Money raised will go toward student scholarships, faculty endowments and facilities, and push the university toward tier one status.
