Lubbock Health Inspections To Experience Change in Routine

The City of Lubbock Health Department is hoping to enhance its food inspections by improving its method of restaurant selection.

Under the current system, a restaurant is chosen based on the number of seats it has. The new "risk-based evaluation program" would take into consideration the total number of employees, the kinds of food served, and the total number of customers.

"What we're proposing to do is to go to a risk based structure where restaurants or food establishments that serve riskier food like raw or under-cooked meats as opposed to donuts are inspected differently and charged for their permits accordingly," said Bridget Faulkenberry, Environmental Health Manager.
