LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Former Republican Vice Presidential running mate, Sarah Palin will come to Lubbock January 24th to speak at a the 21st annual Lubbock Christian School benefit dinner held at the civic center, but tickets are limited.
"We decided this year was different, because we've never had the opportunity to bring a person of such prominence and of such current relevance to the country as we are talking about this year," said Lubbock Christian School Development Director, Stephen Warren.
Whether you agree with her or not, her hub city visit could be a sell out since 75 percent of the available tickets are already gone. But for one local barber this visit is two years in the making.
"We put the Palin piggy bank up. Barack Obama made the comment one time, you can put lipstick on a pig but anyway you look at it, it's still a pig. I really liked Sarah Palin so we just used the pig to collect the money," said Jerry's Barbershop owner, Mourice Stanley.
Since 2008, it's been his dream. Mourice Stanley the owner of Jerry's barbershop has been advocating for Sarah Palin since the last election.
"I really liked her because she stood there and took bullets for John McCain," said Stanley."
He raised $2,835 originally for Palin's 2010 presidential campaign. Now he's using his grass root efforts to spend a night hearing her speak. "We immediately jumped at it when we knew she was coming," said Stanley.
"It's going to be an excitement that we've never had before. And the message that will be shared will be inspiring to all of us at the Lubbock Christian school but also to the whole city of Lubbock," said Warren.
Ten tickets, a sponsor for the event and $2,000 later he plans to share the wealth with his customers by the luck of the draw. "We will have people fill out a form and put it in a bucket and draw," said Stanley.
Whether or not they like Palin, Mourice is happy to give others a night to remember and pictures to last a lifetime.
"I want the opportunity to go visit with her and hopefully ask a few questions. At least I'll get to hear what she has to say," said Stanley.
