LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) –A free clinic launched by local medical students has been recognized as one of the best in the country. So, today, officials at the Texas Tech Health Science Center celebrated this first year, and the success of the free clinic. It is held at Family Church every Wednesday night in Lubbock.
The students and professionals there have recorded more than a thousand visits, and they are from area folks who would otherwise not have a place to go for medical care.
Dr. Kelly Bennett said, "We really want to see patients who have no source of funding. If you already have Medicare, or Medicaid, or the blue card set up, you know you really already have resources. We're really interested in the people who don't have any resources."
Lubbock Impact collects donations for the clinic, and also runs a soup kitchen in the same facility. The clinic opens at Family Church at 34th and Boston from 6 to 9:00pm on every Wednesday Night. It's free, and patients are served on a first-come, first-serve basis.
