LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Instead of letting this confuse you, consider it a blessing that some new weight loss studies are saying to give yourself a break. There are more and more new studies, even from the CDC, that indicate it's not too bad to be a little overweight.
Carrying an extra 10 or 15 pounds may not shorten your life, but that a little padding can be healthy. Cardiologist, Bob Shore, said that "there are certainly a number of diseases where people seem to do a little better with a little bit higher BMI above the quote normal."
Dr. Shore says a little extra weight can also be protective if a person is recovering from illness or injury. He says that the weight factor really depends on an individual's other risk factors. If you're a little overweight, but you exercise and eat right, then you're in a much better place than a normal weight person who smokes.
