LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Tech sits at 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the Big 12 after Saturday's tough loss against Texas. Now they get two weeks to prep for their first conference road game as they visit Iowa State October 2nd. While they don't play this week, the team was back practicing Monday night, and with no pigskin plans for Saturday.
"I'd rather play this week it to early in the season for a bye," said Red Raider Head Coach Tommy Tuberville. "You know you need byes mainly to get a little bit of rest and get some injured guys back but we're in good shape physically. It's just mentally we've got some work to do I'd like to go a couple of more weeks, but that's the way it's lined up. So we'll take the week off and see how it goes and go from there."
"I think it's good. I think there is a lot of things fundamentally we have to work on," said Red Raiders Senior Running Back Baron Batch. "So having this week of to get back to the basics will be good for us. The schedule is set the way it is and you have to go with it. Everyone gets a bye week, the bye week is very important. It's that week that can make or break your team. You can get a lot better, which I fully expect us to do, or you can regress, which I don't think we'll do that."
"I feel we are ready for another game this week, but because we don't, we can just get better," said Red Raiders Sophomore Cornerback Jarvis Phillips. "That will be the best thing for us."
The next time Tommy Tuberville runs out with the Red Raiders are home is October 16th against Oklahoma State. Monday it was announced that game for family weekend at the Jones is a sellout and could rival the new record crowd set Saturday of 60,454. There are still tickets for Missouri, Weber State and Houston. The time for the Oklahoma State game is unknown at this point.
