It was a brief scare for the Texas Tech University employees evacuated from West Hall Thursday afternoon. Around 3 p.m. the Lubbock Fire Department and Haz-Mat team responded to West Hall on the Tech campus. An employee in the Admissions Office reported receiving an envelope with powder in it.
Employees were allowed to go home as a safety precaution, but Texas Tech Spokeswoman Cindy Rugeley says it was a false alarm. "When the Haz-Mat team came out here they took a look at the letter it included a student's registration fee. The student said he mailed it and the fire department said they did not see any powder on it," said Texas Tech Spokeswoman, Cindy Rugeley.
Mark Ethridge with the Lubbock Fire Department says no tests will be done on the envelope and its contents since powder was not found.
