Helicopter grounded in parking lot after frantic 911 call

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Residents of southwest Lubbock were surprised to see a helicopter flying very low Friday morning.

The FAA and Lubbock Police Department responded to 82nd and Quaker Avenue after a frantic 911 call about a helicopter hovering over the parking lot in Kingsgate South. KCBD NewsChannel 11 spoke with the pilot of the helicopter who says he was using the chopper to help dry new pavement in the parking lot when the contractor told him to land.

Once on the ground, he spoke with authorities and was cleared.

James Loomis with Lubbock International Airport said the helicopter was granted a permit on short notice to survey land, but they didn't think he would be hovering above the parking lot for as long as he did.
