Pickup crashes into church, manhunt for driver

By James Clark | email

HOCKLEY COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - Sheriff's Deputies, DPS, and EMS, responded to a pickup truck crash north of Sundown Sunday evening.  A 9-1-1 call came in to the Hockley County Sheriff's Department just before 7:30 that a pickup crashed into the Fairview Baptist Church.  When Deputies arrived, an eyewitness said the driver ran away.  Officers quickly discovered the reason.

The crashed pickup had been stolen.  After 40 minutes of searching Deputies found the man in a field near the church.  They immediately called for Aerocare, but instead the decision was made to take the man to Covenant Hospital in Levelland in an ambulance.

Although officers do have a name of the driver they have not officially released that information.  KCBD NewsChannel 11 video seems to show more damage to the pickup than the church.
