Girl hurt on Fair ride, precautions taken

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) –  A minor accident over the weekend had officials with the South Plains Fair taking extra safety precautions.  One wheel came off the tracks of the "Go Gator," which is a small roller coaster for children.  When that happened a little girl suffered what officials describe as a bruised ankle.  They say EMS took the 3-year-old girl to a local hospital "as a precaution" where she was treated and released.  Go Gator was back in operation by Saturday and is "running safely tonight," officials said Monday.

"The ride of course was inspected by a independent ride inspector that we hired to come on the grounds,"  says Freddy Miller with Miller Spectacular Shows says.  "He does pre opening inspections on all of the rides before opening at the fair, and then after that they undergo daily inspections also."

Miller says rides are inspected periodically through the night and each day before the rides open.  He says no accident like this has ever happened like this before at South Plains Fair.
