Gubernatorial candidate announced green future in Lubbock

Posted: Updated:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Democratic candidate for Texas Governor Bill White stopped in Lubbock Tuesday.  White announced a three step plan for a green energy future in Texas at the American Wind Power Center.

He says the state needs to first become a leader in renewable energy sources, including wind and solar. Next, White says we need to have centers for research, like Texas Tech University, so the workforce can prepare for more clean energy jobs in Texas. Finally, White called on Texans to be more energy efficient, to lower the cost of living and doing business in the state.

"Imagine if instead of raising tuition so that colleges can meet their bills, we had a program to make their buildings more energy efficient," White said.  White says green energy will also ensure a strong state economy, with high wage jobs.

Meanwhile, Governor Rick Perry says he'll ask the legislature to make all repeat sex offenders eligible for a life sentence without parole. Perry says the sentence can already be put on those who target children, but he wants the law expanded to include those who rape adults.
